Athole Still is one the most respected managers in the UK. Educated at Robert Gordon's College, Aberdeen, he graduated with a Master of Arts in Modern Languages from Aberdeen University, before going on to attend the Guildhall and Morley College Opera Studio in London as an external student, while simultaneously pursuing a flourishing career as a freelance sports commentator (former Olympic swimmer) and journalist.

He performed over 20 leading principal tenor roles with companies throughout the UK, before his major debut as The Simpleton Boris Godunov and Almaviva Il Barbiere di Siviglia for Scottish Opera, and later Erste Geharnischte Die Zauberflöte, Macduff Macbeth and Rodolfo La Bohème for both Glyndebourne Festival and Glyndebourne Touring Opera. He subsequently won a Major Award in Music of the City of London, which enabled him to embark on a year-long period of study in Naples.

In 1982 he established Rawstron Still Management Partnership, which in 1988 evolved into Athole Still International, an agency devoted to sport and opera, reflecting Athole's two life-long passions.

In 2007 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Aberdeen in recognition of his contribution to the world of sport and opera.
