One of the finest Tenors to have graced the operatic arena in recent years, Bruce Ford first rose to fame as one of the pioneers of the hugely-significant Rossini revival, and renowned as one of the most significant artists responsible for the rejuvenation of the Rossini Festival in Pesaro. Since then he has gone on to stamp his credentials over a wide variety of repertoire, delighting both public and critics the world over, and deservedly earning his unique place in Operatic History.

A masterful performer of the music of the Bel Canto era, recent examples of the countless highlights of his career so far include the title role of Rossini’s Otello in Washington, ALMAVIVA Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Metropolitan Opera, New York and Opéra National de Paris, DON RUIZ in Donizetti’s Maria Padilla with the Minnesota Opera, Rossini’s L’Assedio di Corinto with Baltimore Opera Company and Maometto II for the Vara Matinee in the Netherlands. He was acclaimed for his superb ORESTE in Rossini’s Ermione for Glyndebourne, directed by Graham Vick, in whose production he also sang the title role in Mozart’s Mitridate at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Both operatic evenings have been judged among the most remarkable in recent history and are available on DVD.

MITRIDATE has become one of Ford’s most successful roles, and he has since gone on to add two other sovereigns, TITO in La Clemenza di Tito and the title role in Idomeneo to an impressive Mozartean repertoire including BELMONTE Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Alessandro in Il re pastore and FERRANDO Così fan tutte in numerous productions world-wide, including The Royal Opera House, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Lyric Opera of Chicago, The Dallas Opera, Los Angeles Opera and San Francisco Opera, Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels and the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. His superb interpretation of Handel’s TAMERLANO in appearances at the Teatro Real, Madrid, and De Nederlandse Opera, testify to his continuing dramatic prowess, vocal expertise and artistic ingenuity. A hectic future schedule includes a welcome return with MITRIDATE to Vienna in 2009.

He has been an ambassador for opera for many years, recording no less than seventeen complete versions of some of the rarest and most beautiful examples of the bel canto repertoire with Opera Rara (with whom he has enjoyed a long and close association) bestowing on his many fans world-wide a unique and precious operatic legacy.

In addition, his numerous recitals and recordings of, for example, the English version of The Barber of Seville for Chandos have encouraged a wider public to enjoy opera. His vast and award-winning discography includes the original version of Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, conducted by Sir Charles Mackerras for Sony Classics, as well as his critically-acclaimed Opera Rara aria recital Romantic Heroes (featuring works by Donizetti, Mercadante, Meyerbeer and Rossini) and the best-selling compilation album Bruce Ford - Serious Rossini.

Highlights of Bruce’s future engagements include TAMERLANO alongside Placìdo Domingo for LA Opera Autumn 2009 and the title role in Lucio Silla for Opera de Nice in February 2010. Other significant highlights in 2010 include DON OTTAVIO Don Giovanni for Dallas Opera, and a welcome return to the Metropolitan Opera, New York with the role of GOFFREDO Armida, which will be featured in a live broadcast on May 1st 2010.
