Alan Woodrow Tenor

Firmly belonging to that rare group of world-class Helden Tenors, Alan Woodrow's most recent triumphs have included TRISTAN in the Peter Sellars production with the Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra in Los Angeles and New York, in addition to appearances throughout Europe and Northern America, including a particular success as AEGISTH for both the Canadian Opera Company and the Washington Opera.

It was his exceptional debut in Martinu's Greek Passion at the Edinburgh Festival that first brought Canadian Tenor Alan Woodrow to the attention of major European houses. Quickly followed by further debuts including SERGEI Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk at the Bastille, La Scala and Oper Frankfurt, TAMBOURMAJOR Wozzeck for Opera North and FLORESTAN for Opera Omaha, he has consolidated an international career.
More recently, successes have included BACCHUS for the Teatro Verdi Trieste, SIEGMUND for the Opera de Rouen, AEGISTH for the Théâtre de Capitole, Toulouse, HERODES for the Teatro Massimo di Palermo and GUIDO BARDI Eine Florentinische Tragödie for La Scala Milan. He returned to the Teatro Bellini di Catania as GUNTRAM, to the Opera Royal de la Wallonie Liege and the Seattle Opera for Ring cycles and performed SIEGFRIED with the Bochumer Symphoniker, the Staatstheater Nürnberg and the National Symphony Orchestra Taiwan.
Additional highlights over the Seasons 2007 – 2008 have included TRISTAN at the Tiroler Festspiele Erl, the Théâtre de Capitole, Toulouse and the West Australian Opera, a role he repeats in the Peter Sellars production with the Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra in Los Angeles and New York. Others of particular note have included AEGISTH for the Canadian Opera Company and the Washington Opera.
He remains a popular guest artist with English National Opera where he has sung the PRINCE Love for Three Oranges, BOB BOLES, BACCHUS, TAMBOURMAJOR and ANDREI Khovanschina. He sang DER KAISER Die Frau Ohne Schatten at the Basel Opera, PRINCE Love for Three Oranges in Tel Aviv and LADISLAW The Two Widows at the Guelph Spring Festival. His first HERODES at English National Opera met with outstanding acclaim and he repeated FLORESTAN for the Stadttheater Bern, (also BORIS Katya Kabanova) DER KAISER Die Frau Ohne Schatten at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Munich, DON JOSE at the Royal Albert Hall and AEGISTH Elektra for the Theater Basel.

Mr Woodrow has sung HERODES at the San Diego Opera, TANNHÄUSER at the Teatro San Carlo, Napoli and the Teatro Massimo di Palermo, HÜON Oberon with the City of London Sinfonia FLORESTAN with the San Antonio Symphony, TAMBOURMAJOR with the Philharmonia Orchestra, DER SCHÄBIGE Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk at the Teatro Comunale di Firenze, Strauss's Guntram at the Richard Strauss Festspiele Garmisch and DON JOSE for English National Opera.
Further international projects have included DER KAISER at the Bayerische Staatsoper, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, BACCHUS at the Teatro San Carlo Napoli, AEGISTH at the Bayerische Staatsoper, HERODES for Scottish Opera and SIEGFRIED at the Tiroler Festspiele. He repeated the role of SIEGFRIED in the Seattle Opera Ring cycle (also THE PRINCE Rusalka) and made role debuts at the Liceu Barcelona as RIENZI, the Canadian Opera Company as CLEMENTE Venus and Adonis and the New National Theatre Tokyo as SIEGMUND Die Walküre.
Alan Woodrow’s French debut was as SIEGFRIED in the new Ring cycle at the Theatre du Capitole, Toulouse, a role he has repeated for the Perth International Arts Festival, the Liceu Barcelona, the Opera Royal de la Wallonie Liege, the Festival Amazonas in Manaus and the Teatro Real Madrid.
