The American bass Daniel Lewis Williams has become one of the most admired and sought after interpreters of the German and Italian repertoire. Guest engagements have taken him to opera houses in Frankfurt, Berlin, Dresden, Köln, Nice, Rome, Genova, Palermo, Venice, Leipzig, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Matsumoto Music Festival and Spoleto Music Festival. After graduating from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Mr Williams continued his vocal studies in Europe at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Munich and privately with Kurt Böhme and Kurt Moll.

Daniel Lewis Williams soon attracted the attention of many major opera houses and the 1990 season saw his repertoire and profile increase. Many prestigious debuts followed, including; RAMFIS, GREMIN, SARASTRO, EREMIT, SPARAFUCILE, HUNDING, ROCCO, DALAND at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Düsseldorf, OSMIN, GREMIN and SARASTRO at the Semperoper Dresden, DALAND for the Minnesota Opera Company, KEZAL at the Oper Köln and the Staatstheater Stuttgart, FALSTAFF/Die Lustige Weiber von Windsor at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

Mr Williams received international acclaim for his performance of BARON OCHS VON LERCHENAU/Der Rosenkavalier in the famed Ruth Berghaus production in Frankfurt.

Other major debuts have included ROCCO at the Spoleto Music Festival USA, the Oper Bonn and in Las Palmas (where he returned to sing the EREMIT), LANDGRAF at the Oper Leipzig, HUNDING in Caracas, Venezuela, SARASTRO at the Oper Leipzig and the Aalto Theater, Essen, SPARAFUCILE at the Opera di Genova and his internationally highly praised portrayal of BARON OCHS at Teatro Massimo di Parlermo, Spoleto Music Festival USA, Prinzregenten Theater, Munich, Opera di Genova, Staatstheater Darmstadt and Staatstheater Dortmund.

Mr Williams is also a much sought after concert artist performing in major European cities. Engagements in the last few seasons have included the Verdi Requiem with the Nürnberg Symphony Orchestra, Schönberg‘s Gurrelieder with the German Radio Orchestra, Schostokowitch’s Symphony 14 with the Nürnberg Symphony Orchestra and Strawinskij’s Threni at La Fenice where Mr Williams will also perform Beethoven’s Mass in C.

Recent and future operatic engagements include KING MARKE/Tristan und Isolde at the Opera di Genova, FAFNER/Siegfried and HAGEN/Götterdämmerung at the Opera de Marseille, the OLD HEBREW/Samson et Dalila and CLAGGART/Billy Budd at Teatro la Fenice, SARASTRO at the National Theater Weimar and in Palermo, FAFNER in Rome and Trieste, BARON OCHS at the Opera di Trieste and for Opera Pacific, DALAND for the Opera di Trieste and a role debut as SIR MOROSUS/Die schweigsame Frau at the Opera de Marseille.
