Recent highly-sucessful performances, including Fenton in Glyndebourne's summer 2009 production of Falstaff, have consolidated Bülent Bezdüz's reputation as one of the world's finest Tenors. The young tenor Soner Bülent Bezdüz was born in Turkey and graduated from the Music Academy of Gazi University in Ankara. He studied with Roman Werlinski and was invited to further his studies at the European Opera Centre in Manchester. He made his début in the title role of Mozart´s opera Lucio Silla on tour in the UK, Ireland and Denmark with the European Opera Centre and in 1999 was a prize winner in the Concours International de Chant de Paris whilst training at the C'nipal in Marseille.
Mr Bezdüz is a member of the State Opera in Mersin where his roles include RODOLFO (La Boheme), EDGARDO (Lucia di Lammermoor), DUCA (Rigoletto) and ALREDO (La Traviata). Early international guest engagements include ALFREDO (La Traviata) at the Aspendos International Opera Festival and CASSIO (Otello), FRANCESCO (Benvenuto Cellini) and HELLENUS (Les Troyens) in concert performances with the London Symphony Orchestra and Sir Colin Davis.
He made his début at the Grand Theatre de Tours as RODOLFO (La Boheme) and was invited to take part in Gianni Schicchi at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam in performances conducted by Riccardo Chailly. He sang ALFREDO (La Traviata) for the Opera de Nancy and the Opera de Rennes, PANG (Turandot) at the Concertgebouw and with De Nederlandse Opera and FENTON at the Opera de Lausanne.
Recent seasons have seen him make débuts at De Vlaamse Opera as ALFREDO GERMONT, as RODOLFO at the Bühnen der Stadt Köln, at the Opera de Marseille as GENNARO in Lucrezia Borgia and as FENTON with the London Symphony Orchestra under Sir Colin Davis - the recording of which won the Grammy Award 2006 for Best Opera. He made his North American début as EDGARDO (Lucia di Lammermoor) at the Portland Opera and has sung this role at the Opéra de Montpellier and the Teatro Colón Buenos Aires.
His début as NEMORINO was last season at the Opéra de Nancy and the Opera de Caen and he made his début with the Canadian Opera Company as RODOLFO, a role he sang to great acclaim at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt. Future engagements include EDGARDO for Scottish Opera and for the Fondazione Pergolesi Spontini in Jesi, Treviso and Fano. He returns to the Opera de Montpellier to sing FERNANDO in Donizetti's La Favorita and makes his debut with the Nationale Reisopera as ALFREDO GERMONT and for Glyndebourne Festival Opera as FENTON.
