Colin Judson Tenor

After critically acclaimed performances of Mime in new productions of Wagner's Ring cycle in Lisbon and Strasbourg, Colin Judson has quickly developed a reputation as one of the most sought-after British character artists, a position consolidated by appearances with Glyndebourne Festival Opera, the Teatro Real Madrid, the Opera du Rhin and the Royal Opera House Covent Garden.

Colin Judson studied at the Guildhall School of Music and has developed an excellent reputation in the character tenor repertoire with upcoming engagements at major houses in the UK and the rest of Europe. In recent years, he has become known as one of the most exciting young performers of the role of MIME in Wagner's Ring cycle, with performances in new productions in Strasbourg and Lisbon attracting universal critical acclaim.
After completing vocal studies he established a successful relationship with Glyndebourne Festival Opera for whom he covered the parts of DER PRINZ, KAMMERDIENER, DER MARQUIS (Lulu), sang CORYPHEE Le Comte Ory for both GFO and Glyndebourne Tour, GASTON La Traviata in their 1997 tour, ANDREW in Birtwistle's The Last Supper (also Staatsoper Berlin, Queen Elizabeth Hall) and REMENDADO Carmen, which he performed for a number of seasons (also televised) both in the Festival and the Tour.
Colin subsequently became a member of the Cologne Opera where he appeared as HIRT/JUNGE SEEMANN Tristan und Isolde, MONOSTATOS Die Zauberflöte, SPOLETTA Tosca, VENDITORE Il Tabarro, GORO Madama Butterfly and GASTON. He won particular acclaim for his portrayals of PEDRILLO Die Entführung aus dem Serail and TRUFFALDINO in The Love for Three Oranges. In 2002 he made his début with Scottish Opera as ALFRED Die Fledermaus, returning for BORSA Rigoletto and in the same season performed Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Britten's War Requiem at the Megaron in Athens, MALE CHORUS The Rape of Lucretia at the Dartington International Music School and EDGARDO Lucia di Lammermoor for New Sussex Opera.
Colin made his début with English National Opera in The Magic Flute and with the Tenerife Opera as REMENDADO. He returned to Scottish Opera to sing JACQUINO Fidelio, REMENDADO and L’INCREDIBILE Andrea Chenier and to ENO for THIRD JEW Salome as well as making his debut at both the Royal Opera House Covent Garden as PANG Turandot and at the Teatro Real Madrid as SNOUT A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Last season Colin Judson sang MIME Das Rheingold at the Opera National du Rhin in Strasbourg as well as making his debut at the Opera de Bordeaux as JAQUINO Fidelio and at the Theatre du Capitole Toulouse as MONOSTATOS Die Zauberflöte. A series of short television operas featuring Colin in a variety of roles was broadcast this year on BBC TV.
He returns to the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden to sing SNOUT A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the NOVICE Billy Budd for the Cologne Opera, FLUTE A Midsummer Night’s Dream for Opera North, DR CAIUS Falstaff for Glyndebourne on Tour, SQUEAK Billy Budd for Glyndebourne Festival Opera and MIME Siegfried for the Opera du Rhin and the Sao Carlo Lisbon.


Future projects include Nick “Fanciulla del West” at the Edinburgh Festival, Truffaldino “Love for Three Oranges” in Limoges and Dr. Caius “Falstaff” in Nantes.
