A unique comic style and a vocal ability have sustained Lynton Black’s impressive international career. Most recent successes have included QUINCE in Robert Carsen’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream for Opéra de Lyon and the Athens Festival, MR GOBINEAU in Menotti’s The Medium for Opéra de Monte-Carlo and MR FLINT in Billy Budd at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Munich. His long awaited debut at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden was in Les Contes d'Hoffmann last season and he returns this year for Der Rosenkavalier.

Most recent successes have included QUINCE in Robert Carsen’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream for Opéra de Lyon and the Athens Festival, GOBINEAU in Menotti’s The Medium for Opéra de Monte-Carlo and MR FLINT in Billy Budd at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Munich. A busy schedule over the coming period includes LUTHER Les Contes d’Hoffmann marking his debut for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and BARTOLO for Opéra de Monte Carlo in 2010.
His made his debut with the English Bach Festival and other early appearances included DON ALFONSO Cosi fan tutte for the Perth Festival, SULTAN in Haydn’s L’incontro improvviso, SUPERINTENDENT BUDD Albert Herring and BARTOLO Nozze di Figaro for Garsington Opera, FRANK Die Fledermaus (subsequently recorded for SONY-BMG), DICK DEADEYE and THE MIKADO for the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company, BARTOLO for Glyndebourne Touring Opera and COLONEL KILLIAN in the world premiere of Nigel Osborne’s The Piano Tuner. In addition he recorded the role of EXECUTIONER in Sullivan’s The Rose of Persia for the BBC.
His international appearances have included the Salzburg Festival as THIRD SHEPHERD and FOURTH SPIRIT in Monteverdi’s Orfeo, and a return to Salzburg to sing ANTONIO Le nozze di Figaro in productions conducted by Edo de Waart, Nicholas Harnoncourt and Sir Charles Mackerras. Other international highlights have included DER NOTAR Der Rosenkavalier Opéra de Bastille, ACHILLES La Belle Hélène for Aix-en-Provence, the roles of LESBO Agrippina, directed by David McVicar and SCIARRONE Tosca, conducted by Antonio Pappano for Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie and ACHILLA Giulio Cesare for the Liceu Barcelona.
Lynton recently made his debut at the Bayerische Staatsoper as TRULOVE The Rake’s Progress, conducted by Ivor Bolton while in the UK he sang BARTOLO for Glyndebourne on Tour and GERONTE Manon Lescaut for Opera Holland Park. 2009 marks his welcome return to the Royal Opera House as DER NOTAR in Der Rosenkavalier.
