Recent significant successes, including RENATO Un Ballo in Maschera for Finnish National Opera, ENRICO Lucia di Lammermoor for Montreal Opera and ESCAMILLO Carmen for Washington Opera have generated enormous interest in Jorge Lagunes. Highlights of his forthcoming schedule include a return to Helsinki later this year as AMONASRO Aida, conducted by Stefano Ranzani.

Recent significant successes, including RENATO Un Ballo in Maschera for Finnish National Opera, ENRICO Lucia di Lammermoor for Montreal Opera and ESCAMILLO Carmen for Washington Opera have generated enormous interest in Jorge Lagunes. Highlights of his forthcoming schedule include a return to Helsinki later this year as AMONASRO Aida, conducted by Stefano Ranzani.

In the USA, his regular appearances at Washington Opera have included GERARD Andrea Chenier, GIORGIO I Puritani, POSA Don Carlos, ENRICO Lucia di Lammermoor, and most recently ESCAMILLO Carmen. Further afield, he sang EUGENE ONEGIN for the Teatro de Bellas Artes in Mexico, and GERMONT in Zeffirelli’s new production of La Traviata for Los Angeles Opera, in addition to performances in Busseto, Ravenna and Modena.

Elsewhere in Europe, significant engagements have included ESCAMILLO Carmen for Palma de Mallorca, SHARPLESS Madama Butterfly for Opera de Bilbao, ENRICO Lucia di Lammermoor in Berlin and VALENTIN Faust, in addition to numerous further appearances at Grand Théâtre de Genève, Covent Garden, Teatro Real de Madrid, New York City Opera and Tel Aviv, amongst others.

He gained particular international acclaim as VIDAL in the revival of Luisa Fernanda, under the baton of Plácido Domingo, following this with MEPHISTOPHELES Damnation de Faust and NABUCCO, both for Teatro de la Ciudad, Mexico. In 2006 he was the recipient of the Plácido Domingo Prize, and in 2008 became the first Mexican singer to perform in a Zarzuela at the Teatro Real de Madrid.

More recently, in 2009, he sang MARCELLO La Bohème for Opera de Santiago, and enjoys regular collaborations with artists including Anna Netrebko, Denyce Graves, Ben Heppner, Francisco Araiza, Rolando Villazon, Ramón Vargas, Paata Burchuladze, Alain Lombard, Daniel Oren, Renato Palumbo and Plácido Domingo.
