Andrew Greenwood has conducted many of the major symphony orchestras in Britain including the Philharmonia, the Royal Philharmonic, the City of London Sinfonia, the Ulster Orchestra and the English Northern Sinfonia.

Recent and future opera engagements for Andrew Greenwood include Die Fledermaus, La Bohème and La Traviata Welsh National Opera, Don Giovanni Zomer Opera, Cristina, Regina di Svezia Wexford Festival, A Midsummer Night’s Dream & La vie parisienne RNCM, Albert Herring New National Theatre, Tokyo. Concert engagements include with Joseph Calleja and Orchestre National d’Ile de France in Paris and London with Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, concerts regionally with Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Carmina Burana Royal Albert Hall and Messiah with Philharmonia. Other concert engagements include Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra, Lahti Symphony Orchestra and Russian National Orchestra.

His international engagements have included First Conductor at Oper Köln and a highly successful period with the Royal Danish Opera. From 1996 to 2002 he was Music Director of English Touring Opera where he has conducted some of its most popular productions. He also conducted many performances for Chelsea Opera Group, most recently Adriana Lecouvreur and Medea.

Andrew is a frequent broadcaster for the BBC with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic and he regularly appears at the International Istanbul Music Festival. His discography includes two operatic recital discs with Lesley Garrett and Dennis O’Neill respectively.

Born in Yorkshire, Andrew read music at Clare College, Cambridge, going on to join the Music Staff of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden from1977 until 1984. He was subsequently appointed Chorus Master at Welsh National Opera, a post he held until 1990. In that year he made his debut at English National Opera with The Magic Flute, and has since conducted Madam Butterfly, Don Giovanni and a new production of Don Pasquale. Operas he conducted during his period as the artistic director of the Buxton Festival (2006-2011) include Maria di Rohan, Mignon Luisa Miller and the award-winning Roberto Devereux.
