His distinguished career has taken him to international opera houses such as Théâtre de la Monnaie Brussels, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Semperoper Dresden, Oper Leipzig, Staatsoper Hamburg, Staatstheater Stuttgart, Opera Bonn, Oslo Opera House, De Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam, Opéra du Rhin Strasbourg, Opéra de Nantes, Oper Dortmund, Stadttheater Bern, Salzburger Festspiele, Wiener Volksoper, Theater an der Wien, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, English National Opera, Washington Opera, Aix-en-Provence Festival, Opéra de Rouen, Opéra de Lyon, Opéra de Marseille, Rossini Opera Festival Pesaro and Teatro Carlo Felice Genoa. His most important roles include the title role in Saint Francois d’Assise, GREMIN Eugene Onegin, KÖNIG MARKE Tristan und Isolde, GURNEMANZ Parsifal, HUNDING and WOTAN Die Walküre, PIMEN Boris Godunov, and ARKEL Pelleas et Mélisande.

Frode Olsen is also a sought-after concert artist, having performed works such as the Verdi Requiem, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle and Stabat Mater, Dvorak’s Stabat Mater, Händel’s Messias, Haydn’s Schöpfung and Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis. He has collaborated with directors and conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Sylvain Cambreling, Andrew Davies, Jiri Kout, Kent Nagano, Antonio Pappano, Esa-Peka Salonen, Isaac Karabtechevsky, Luc Bondy, Peter Sellars and Jeffrey Tate. His discography includes recordings of Salome (Decca) with Christoph von Dohnanyi, Wozzeck (EMI) with Ingo Metzmacher, and Le Grand Macabre (Sony).

Frode Olsen was born in Oslo and studied at the National Opera Conservatory.
