Frode Olsen’s current and future projects include the role of HAMM in Kurtag’s Fin de Partie at Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Kölner Philharmonie, BBC Proms, Müpa Budapest and Oper Dortmund, and the role of NANSEN in the new opera Fram for Den Norske Opera Oslo. He sang the world premiere of Fin de Partie at Teatro alla Scala, and revivals at the Opéra de Paris, De Nederlandse Opera and Opera Ballet Vlaanderen Antwerp.

In past seaons he sang ASTRADAMORS Le Grand Macabre Semperoper Dresden, Berlin Philharmonic and London Symphony Orchestra, WESENER Die Soldaten Teatro Colón Buenos Aires, FATHER in the world premiere of Boesmann’s Au Monde Théâtre de la Monnaie and the Opéra Comique, DOKTOR Wozzeck Den Norske Opera Oslo, and MONK Matsukaze Staatsoper Berlin, Opéra de Lille and Polish National Opera.

His distinguished career has taken him to international opera houses such as Théâtre de la Monnaie Brussels, De Vlaamse Opera Antwerp, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Semperoper Dresden, Oper Leipzig, Staatsoper Hamburg, Staatstheater Stuttgart, Opera Bonn, Oslo Opera House, De Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam, Opéra du Rhin Strasbourg, Opéra de Nantes, Oper Dortmund, Stadttheater Bern, Salzburger Festspiele, Wiener Volksoper, Theater an der Wien, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, English National Opera, Washington Opera, Aix-en-Provence Festival, Opéra de Rouen, Opéra de Lyon, Opéra de Marseille, Rossini Opera Festival Pesaro and Teatro Carlo Felice Genoa. His most important roles include the title role in Saint Francois d’Assise, ASTRADAMORS Le Grand Macabre, KÖNIG MARKE Tristan und Isolde, GURNEMANZ Parsifal, WOTAN Die Walküre, PIMEN Boris Godunov, DOKTOR Wozzeck and ARKEL Pelleas et Mélisande.

Frode Olsen is also a distinguished concert artist having performed works such as the Verdi Requiem, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle and Stabat Mater, Dvorak’s Stabat Mater, Händel’s Messias, Haydn’s Schöpfung and Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis. He has collaborated with directors and conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Sylvain Cambreling, Andrew Davies, Jiri Kout, Kent Nagano, Antonio Pappano, Esa-Peka Salonen, Isaac Karabtechevsky, Luc Bondy, Peter Sellars and Jeffrey Tate. His discography includes recordings of Salome (Decca) with Christoph von Dohnanyi, Wozzeck (EMI) with Ingo Metzmacher, and Le Grand Macabre (Sony).

Frode Olsen was born in Oslo and studied at the National Opera Conservatory.
