Iain  MacNeil

Baritone Iain MacNeil’s current and future plans include Macbeth (title role) Theater Basel, SCARPIA Tosca and IAGO Otello Staatstheater Stuttgart, Theater Bonn and Calgary Opera, KAJIN in Rudi Stephan’s Die Ersten Menschen The Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, and AMONASRO Aida and Macbeth Oper Frankfurt. He will also make his debut at the Royal Ballet and Opera Covent Garden next season.

Iain has been in the Oper Frankfurt ensemble since the 2019/20 season. He had a particular success in the role of KAJIN in Die Ersten Menschen (Rediscovery of the Year 2022/23, Opernwelt) and as Dallapiccola’s Ulisse (Rediscovery of the Year 2022, International Opera Awards). Other roles for Opera Frankfurt were IAGO, KLINGSOR Parsifal, PRINCE NIKITA The Sorceress, BLACK MINISTER Le Grand Macabre, FIELD MARSHAL DÖRFLING The Prince of Homburg, POLICE CHIEF Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, DER BARON Der Ferne Klang, JOHANN Werther, LORD TRISTAN MICKLEFORD Martha, DER SPIELMANN Königskinder, MARULLO Rigoletto, OLIVIER Capriccio, WERSHININ Tri sestry, TADEUSZ Die Passagierin and FIGARO Le Nozze di Figaro. He also performed DER SPIELMANN Königskinder Tiroler Festspiele Erl and FIGARO Le nozze di Figaro Vancouver Opera.

Iain MacNeil was a member of the opera studio of Oper Frankfurt and of the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto. He sang TARQUINIUS The Rape of Lucretia Toronto Summer Music Festival and Don Giovanni (title role) Saskatoon Opera. He was awarded the Emmerich Smola Prize, took part in the Young Singers Project of Salzburger Festspiele and was a scholarship holder of the Richard Wagner Association, Frankfurt.
