"As Joe, Justin Hopkins’s rendition of the song is painfully beautiful, rich, and resonant."
Roseann Cane, Berkshire on Stage
"Joe has the iconic “Ol’ Man River,” which requires a strong voice and presence – not surprisingly, as it was written with Paul Robeson in mind. Hopkins lets his amazing voice do the work for him, first time through solo, second time with a chorus of nine barge men, both times garnering a huge swell of applause."
B. A. Nilsson, Words and Music
"Hopkins rendered Joe’s famous “Ol’ Man River” with a stentorian verve that readily reminded us why this song is a standalone favorite of the American song book."
Paul du Quenoy, ConcertoNet.com
"Justin Hopkins’s mellow bass-baritone fit the affable Bailli to a tee. Familiar from his many appearances with the Boston Pops, Hopkins is a singer to watch as his career progresses. "
Kevin Wells, Bachtrack
"The remaining roles reflected the extremely high standards of the house, with a particular mention for Justin Hopkins’ handsome and resounding bass as Narumov. "
Operatraveller.com
"Narumov's few replicas are enough to highlight Justin Hopkins' opulent, warm and richly colored timbre."
Premiere Loge
" Justin Hopkins impresses on the role of Narumov a powerful and deep presence, with his copper voice"
