Rosetta Cucchi

Italian stage director Rosetta Cucchi has been the Artistic Director of the Wexford Festival since 2019. From 2006 to 2018, she was the Artistic Director of Fondazione and Symphonic Orchestra Arturo Toscanini, Parma. Her most recent and future directing projects include Tutino’s La Ciociara Wexford Festival, Adriana Lecouvreur Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Rossini’s Otello Rossini Festival Pesaro, Eugene Onegin Opera Omaha and L’Amico Fritz Teatro del Maggio Musical Fiorentino.

Since her operatic debut in 2004 with Braunfels’ Prinzessin Brambilla Wexford Opera Festival, Rosetta has established herself as an inventive and musical stage director. She stages rarely performed operas such as Alfano’s Risurrezione, Carlo Pedrotti’s Tutti in Maschera and Mariotte’s Salome Wexford Festival, as well as Così fan tutte, Le Nozze di Figaro, Idomeneo, Don Giovanni, La Cenerentola, Il Viaggio a Reims, L’italiana in Algeri, Il barbiere di Siviglia, L’elisir d’amore, Falstaff, La Traviata, Rigoletto, Otello La bohème, Salome, La Favorite, Cavalleria rusticana and La Gioconda in international venues such as Theater Lübeck, Stadttheater St. Gallen, Festival della Valle d’Itria, Opera di Tenerife, Opéra de Marseille, Teatro Comunale di Modena, Opera di Genova, Teatro Comunale di Piacenza, Baltimore Theatre, Gulbenkian Hall Lisbon, Teatro de la Real Maestranza Seville, Paisiello Festival Taranto, Opéra de Monte Carlo, Teatro La Fenice, Opéra Royal de Wallonie Liège, Lima Peru, Teatro Colon Bogota, and Boston Lyric Opera.

Rosetta Cucchi studied piano at the G. Rossini Conservatorio, Pesaro and holds a Master’s degree in Arts, Music and Theatre from Bologna University. She won international piano competitions and regularly worked with RAI Symphonic Orchestra Roma and artists such as Mariella Devia and Sonia Ganassi in Teatro alla Scala di Milano, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia di Roma, Teatro Real Madrid, and the Japan Opera Foundation.

Her first experience as a stage director was with Il passo dell’anima. Teatro Massimo Bellini di Catania, a show she wrote and directed. Her production of Carlo Coccia’s Arrighetto Rossini Opera Festival Pesaro was recorded on DVD by Bongiovanni, and she staged the Italian premiere of Sweeney Todd Teatro Comunale di Bologna.
