English soprano Susanna Fairbairn is increasingly in demand for operatic and solo work in diverse genres; this season will see three world premieres, and her first CD – the music of Geoffrey Bush and Joseph Horovitz – released on Naxos. She is a regular guest with English Touring Opera and the coming season sees her in productions of Dido and Aeneas and staged performances of the St Matthew Passion as well as COUNT GONTRAN in Une Education Manquee Holt Festival, Grimeborn Festival.

Operatic roles include COUNTESS Le nozze di Figaro for Longborough Festival Opera; DONNA ANNA Don Giovanni, ELEONORA Il furioso all’isola di San Domingo, JUNO La Calisto, BICE Pia de’ Tolomei, 1stPRIESTESS Iphigénie en Tauride, SOLOIST in a semi-staged St. John Passion, ROMILDA cover Xerxes, MINERVA cover Il ritorno d’Ulysses in Patria and GISMONDA cover Ottone for English Touring Opera; MARGERY The Dragon of Wantley for the London Handel Festival; DONNA ELVIRA Don Giovanni; ARMIDA Rinaldo; PAPAGENA Magic Flute; and LADY BILLOWS Albert Herring.

Susanna made her Wigmore Hall début as a Park Lane Group Young Artist last year to great critical acclaim. She has given recitals across the UK, including at St. James Piccadilly and the Purcell Room. Highlights as a soloist include concerts with Laurence Cummings for London Handel Festival, Schumann with the Gewandhaus Orchestra conducted by John Eliot Gardiner, Brahms Requiem in St. David’s Hall, Cardiff, and Tavener’s Veil of the Temple in the composer’s presence.

Susanna studied at the Wales International Academy of Voice under the tutelage of Dennis O’Neill and Nuccia Focile and previously at Trinity College of Music, with Alison Wells. Formerly, Susanna studied flute as an Instrumental Scholar whilst completing her undergraduate degree at Magdalen College, Oxford, and is now mentored by Raymond Connell.
